Canon Digital Ixus 950IS SLR Camera Review UK
December 31, 2007 |
At one time in the Digital Ixus range set the standard for miniaturisation, style and build quality. Now however it’s clear that all the other makers have caught up and when you put the Canon Digital Ixus 950IS SLR Camera alongside all the others, there really is nothing that special about it any more. It is still a nice camera to use and the PureColour LCD is the best of the lot, producing excellent contrast and saturation even in daylight and accurately showing what your photos will actually look like. There an optical viewfinder as well, but its very small.
The Canon Digital Ixus 950IS Camera can be used in fully Automatic or Manual mode, though this is a bit misleading as you can’t change the shutter speed or aperture independently it just means you can adjust white balance, ISO and so on yourself instead of leaving it to the camera.
The 4x zoom doesn’t move in out and particularly quickly, but the autofocus system is quite fast and the green squares that appear on the screen gives you a clear indication of what the camera’s focused on .
The Canon’s exposure system and colour rendition is excellent with rich, saturated hues that look completely natural. The fine detail is very good, through towards the edges of the game the lends does start to lose definition. There is a small amount of purple fringing around bright objects at the frame edges, but not as much as you can see in other compact cameras. The Canon Digital Ixus 950IS is a good camera, but not a great one the lens definition isn’t that good at the edges and if you’re looking for a stylish camera the Sony cybershot W80 is both better and cheaper.
